Broadsands' marks are not for the faint-hearted, nor those who place any value on their vehicle's tracking or suspension. Some level of fitness is required, or your own helicopter.

A left turn off the A361 at the top of the hill out of Watermouth will take you onto roads more potholed than Basra's, then there's the clamber down the cliff-face down hundreds on slippery and uneven stone stairs. And remember: eventually, you're going to be going in the other direction.

At high tide, there is little more than a small cove at the bottom but the ebb soon exposes a much wider, sloping gravel beach. Bass, Pollack, Pouting, occasional summer ray and lot of Dogs & small conger are amongst many species caught here, but in my own experience (always at night), they aren't caught all that often.

Much more productive fishing comes from the rocks to the west, which surface a few hours into the ebb.
DON'T GO ONTO THE ROCKS ALONE, especially at night. If you slip, there are plenty of holes where you could comfortably snooze through your unconsciousness, unseen from the beach, until you're snoring in the returning tide. Also, mobile reception here
is poor to non-exisent.

Fishing from the huge, sloping rock (can't miss it when you're there) will get you lots of straps and a rare double-figure eel, and the gulley right below it is also worth trying with smaller baits & hooks for pollack & pout. Sloping Rock looks an ideal daylight float/spinning mark, too, but I haven't tried it. Yet.

There are known marks beyond the sloping rock but they must be amongst the most dangerous to reach on the north Devon coast. The route is narrow, high above jagged rocks and (often) huge waves crashing through a steep gulley. Warm, still summer days aside, you're not going to survive falling in.

Also, even if you make it to the marks, a change in swell or wind can mean you're suddenly marooned far earlier than expected... and all you can do then is to start humming Abide with Me and fish on til your mark sinks beneath you.
