Puttsborough is arguably one of North Devons best Ray venues.
This is a typical Atlantic storm beach, shallow and constant rolling waves, this does lead to problems with surfers and other water users so is generally best fished early in the morning or night times.
This is a typical Bass, Ray venue but anglers have been suprised with the odd Conger etc straying away from the near by Baggy Point!
The best time to fish "Putts" is 2 hours down to 3 up on a clear moonless night with about 2-3ft waves. Sandeel is the bait for Ray's (usually small eyed ray but does turn up big Blonde's on occasions). Any type of rig will suffice but personally i prefer a running ledger with a long trace and plain lead as the wires on a grip weight is thought to scare the ray if they settle on your weight.
Bass seem to prefer Lugworm weather "black or "blow" makes no difference in results, again any rig will work for the bass, aim to cast into the "breakers" and not too far as you will overcast the bass.
