Westward Ho! rocks is a low tide venue (3 hours either side of low). It is not suitable for lone Children or people who are not too good on their feet as sometimes you need to move quick (rouge waves) and the ground is slippery and uneven. It is not the safest of marks and has been known to claim lives in the past so a floatation suit or similar are recommended.

Unless spinning or float fishing then heavy gear is a must and take plenty of weights. Whatever rig you choose to use, it is benificial to incorperate a rotten bottom (weak link) to help get your fish back.

Personally i would choose to use a pulley rig or running ledger, with a weak link and 5-6oz grip weight.

Species of fish taken from this venue is pretty much the same as any rough ground venue with the added bonus of a good run of Smoothounds.

Bait which has given me the greatest degree of success is Mackerel, Squid, Crab, Mussel and Worm baits.
